James Allen Bailey, Sr.

James Allen Bailey Sr. ,74, of Leckie, WV passed away at his home on December 19, 2024.

He was born July 24, 1950 to the late John A Bailey and Virginia “Wanda” Hodge Hall. James was a WV Mountaineer fan, loved the outdoors, animals, playing guitar and singing. In the warmer months, he was always outside enjoying the day and spending time with his beloved cats. Most of all, James loved his family and spending time with his loved ones. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle and friend. He was a Specialist in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany and the Netherlands during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime retired coal miner and was a member of the UMWA.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Donald “Gene” Hall, and his two brothers: Johnny Bailey and Larry Bailey.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: James “Jamie” Bailey Jr. and wife Susan of Leckie, WV; daughter Jessica Bailey and companion Bryan Dahlen of Princeton, WV; sister, Sheri Butterworth of Charles Town, WV; Former wife, but still family, Judy Hess and husband Roger of Princeton, WV; sister-in-law, Peggy Bailey of Leckie, WV; his grandchildren: Brooke Bailey and fiancé Kendall Ball, Brett Bailey, and Kelsey Bailey, all of Leckie, WV; best friend, Dean Winebarger of Leckie, WV and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Mary Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with Brett Bailey, Brandon Winebarger, Micheal Warren, Buck Lambert, Shannon Lambert, and James Winebarger serving as pallbearers. 

Friends may call prior to services, from 1:00-2:00 on Monday, at the funeral home.
