Ira Esker Proffitt

Ira Esker Proffitt, 91, of Kodak, TN and formerly of Bluefield, WV, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

He was born on June 17, 1932 in Bluefield, WV to Raleigh Whitten Proffitt and Zella Mae Auton Proffitt. He married Ella Mae Dinger on November 6, 1954 in Bluefield. He retired from Flowers Baking Company after 35 years of service and then worked at Grant's Supermarket during his retirement years. 

Ira was preceded in death by his parents, 8 brothers, 3 sisters, a son, Ira Scott Proffitt and a granddaughter Heather Proffitt.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 70 years, Ella Mae "Polly" Proffitt; children, Randall (Kathy) Proffitt, Anita (Rex) McCarter, Jeffrey (Alvinia) Proffitt and Keith (Lorrie) Proffitt; 7 grandchildren, Michael (Cassondra) Tagnesi, Travis (Heather) Proffitt, Jimmy (Amanda) Proffitt, Chad (Marissa) Proffitt, Cody (Lindsey) Proffitt, Jessica (Jesse) Vanover, and Austin (Shaevon) Proffitt. 18 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Donnie Dinger officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where family and friends will serve as pallbearers. 

Friends may call prior to services, from 1:00-2:00 at the funeral home.
