Helen Cline Lockhart

March 26, 1927 – April 1, 2022

Helen Lockhart of Welch passed away at age 95 on Friday, April 1, 2022 after a short illness.

She was born in Mohawk, WV in 1927 the son of the late Lee and Vicie Lester Cline the 8th of 8 children.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon White (Bill Davis) of Morgantown, WV and Brian Lockhart (Carmen) of Welch, WV.  She was preceded in death by Cecil F Lockhart, her loving husband of 75 years, two sons Stephen Lockhart and Stanley Lockhart, along with 7 siblings. She had 3 grandchildren, Cindy Petitte (Joe), Stephanie Lanham (Josh), Candi Bean.  She had 6 great grandchildren, Ava, Luca, Audrey, Alexa, Ari and Ozma whom she loved dearly.   She has numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly. She was an animal lover and will be missed by her winged friends Fred, Caesar, Heckle and Jekyll; her canine friends Cephas and Molly; and her buddy Casper the cat.

Helen graduated from Iaeger High School and Concord College. Helen was a retired educator and social worker having worked in McDowell County for more than forty years. She was a teacher in Bull Creek, McDowell County in a two-room school.  She worked as a social worker for West Virginia Department of Welfare in McDowell County for twenty years.  She also served as the Postmaster for Isaban, WV. 

There will be a gathering of family and friends at Cravens and Shires Funeral Home with a visitation from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm and a funeral service at 2:00 pm, April 5, 2022 with the Rev. Carolyn R. Bishop and the Rev. Dan Pruitt officiating.  An entombment ceremony will take place at the Woodlawn Mausoleum immediately following the funeral service.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.cravens-shires.com.
