Harry Mitchem

Harry O’Neal Mitchem, 92, of Bluefield, West Virginia formerly of Crumpler, West Virginia passed away on Monday, October 09, 2017 at his residence. Harry was born on December 25, 1924 in Crumpler, West Virginia to the late Samuel Preston Mitchem and Cloah Ann Bailey Mitchem. He was a member of the Bluewell United Methodist Church and was a retired coal miner from United Pocahontas Coal Co with 42 years and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Harry served his county proudly during WWII in the US Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four bothers Noble, Colbert, Cledis and Blonnie. Six sisters Vivian, Valley, Faye, Ivy, Edith and Velva. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Claudine Hall Mitchem of the home; one son Rodney Mitchem and wife JoAnn of Bluefield, West Virginia. One sister Necy Mitchem of Bluefield, West Virginia. He is also survived by two grandchildren Jeremy and wife Katie and Alison and husband Eric. Five great grandchildren Grady, Brody, Emery, Marley and Esa. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, West Virginia with Rev. Melissa White officiating the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluefield, West Virginia where friends and relatives will be serving as pallbearers. The Mercer County Veteran’s Honor Guard will perform military honors. The Mitchem family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences will be accepted at www.cravens-shires.com
