I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 Harry Gene Formica, 88 of Bluefield, WV, died Saturday October 7, 2017 after a brief illness. Born March 11, 1929 at Thacker, WV, he was a son of the late Mike Formica and Pearl Vasvary Formica. He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked for Eastern and Peabody Coal companies until his full retirement in 1989. Harry was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield, WV having served over the years in many roles. He was a member of the Bluefield Sons of Italy and worked tirelessly for many years helping to organize and prepare for its annual Italian Heritage Festival in Bluefield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Phillip Formica. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Joy Ferrell Formica, daughter, Pamela Miller of Bluefield VA, son Randall Formica and wife Debbie of Christiansburg, VA, sister Mary Ann Bedra of Warren, Michigan, 3 grandchildren, Ryan Miller and wife Melanie of Bluefield, VA, Ainsley Miller of Bluefield, VA, and Michael Formica of Christiansburg, VA, great granddaughter Ava Miller of Bluefield, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. He will be remembered as a loving, caring, and compassionate husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend, always ready to help, and ready to laugh with everyone. A mass of Christian burial will be conducted Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield with the Reverend Leon Alexander and Reverend Sebastian Devasya officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV where pallbearers will be Keith Formica, Mike Formica, Ryan Miller, Michael Formica, Terry Lampert, and Mike Reed. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell from 6-8 pm with a Christian wake service being conducted at 7:30 p.m.
