Shirley Ann Fletcher Carter Harless, 71, of Bluefield, died at her residence, surrounded by family and loved ones on Monday, November 18, 2019. She was born May 19, 1948 in Bluefield WV to the late Jesse Fletcher and Nancy Bell Boyd.
Shirley was preceded in death by both of her parents, husband Stanley Stewart Carter, Sr. and her 2nd husband Kenneth Eugene Harless, adoptive son Jason Blankenship, sister Barbara Clowers, brothers Gary Blankenship. and William Douglas Blankenship, a special nephew Charles Carter.
Survivors include her loving children, daughter Mary Sue Curry (Keith) of Athens, WV, daughter Sherry Lynn Perdue (Richard) of Bluefield, WV, son Stanley Stewart Carter, Jr (Michelle) of Beckley, WV, son John Franklin Carter of Austin, TX; four sisters Linda Darlene Tupper, Wanda Saunders, Carla Boyd and Pearl Akers; four brothers Michael Boyd, Stevie Blankenship, Charles Richard Blankenship and Dennis Ray Blankenship. Grandchildren Candice Niccole Rudolph, Kristin Curry, Arrin Carter Brooks, Amber Perry, Stanley Curry I, David Dreggors, Jordain Carter, Logan Curry, Samuel Curry, Elijah Carter, 12 great grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Bluefield WV, Shirley was a graduate of Bluefield State College and Mountain State University. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy at Bluefield Va., then later enjoyed fellowship at Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church in Buena Vista, Va. Shirley loved spending time with her family and enjoyed traveling, shopping and the holiday season. Her family will forever miss her as she filled our hearts with great love and joy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Peaceful Valley Church, 362 Cornbread Ridge Road, Princeton, WV with Pastor Delmar Stilwell officiating the service. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Bluefield, WV where Kyle Gillam, Shannon Plaster, Andy Rudolph, Stanley Curry I, Stanley Curry II and Alden Rudolph will be serving as pallbearers. The Harless family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday from 10-:00 – 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church.
