George Evans Scott, 89, of Peel Chestnut Mountain Road, Pocahontas, VA, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Born on March 22, 1930 in Superior, WV, he was a son of the late Arthur and Bertie Bond Scott. He had been a resident of Pocahontas for 50 years and was a retired auto mechanic. He was also a retired Church of God pastor. He was a veteran of the US Army, served in Korea, and was a Purple Heart recipient.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Ashlin Scott of the home; sons, Arthur (Sherri) Scott of Pocahontas, VA, Timothy (Carol) Scott of Bluefield, VA, George (Brenda) Scott of Bluefield, VA, and Nathan (Sherry) Scott of Matthews, NC; daughters, Abbie (Jerry) Simons of Chilhowie, VA and Alice Cook of Abbs Valley, VA; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren; sister, Carol Roberts of Cedar Grove, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Pastor Clifton Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with Garland Darago, Mavrick Parks, Doug Miller, Trevor Darago Eric Scott, and Shawn Scott serving as pallbearers. Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 PM at the funeral home.
