George "Jerry" Gerald Maxwell

October 25, 1941 — October 6, 2020

George Gerald Maxwell "Jerry" age 78, of Bluefield, WV, formerly of Crumpler, Wv passed away Tuesday, October 6th at Charleston Area Medical Center after a short illness. Born on October 25th, 1941 in Crumpler, WV, he was the son of the late George Raymond Maxwell and Alma Maxwell. Jerry was a graduate of Northfork-Elkhorn High School in 1959. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force where he served his country with pride. He retired from United Pocahontas Coal Company at Crumpler. He attended Crumpler United Methodist Church.

 

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Dolly Graham Maxwell, his sister Louise "Weezie" Bailey of Crumpler, WV, his brother Bill Maxwell of Columbus, Ohio.

 

He was survived by his 3 loving children: Jennifer Cooper of Bluefield, WV; Gerald "Mike" Maxwell of Beckley, WV; Mitchell Maxwell ( and special friend Crystal) of Crumpler, WV. 5 grandkids: Brandon Cooper, Jake Cooper, Nate Cooper of Bluefield, Wv; Brayden Maxwell of Princeton, WV; Jayden Maxwell of Crumpler, WV. Siblings: Robert Maxwell, Patricia Hall, Virginia Nunnery, all of Crumpler, WV. A very special friend, Sandra Kellum whom he loved very much of Snow Hill, NC and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was a loving Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle. He loved spending time with his family, gardening and being outdoors. Besides being an avid Mountaineer fan, he also loved the Cowboys and the Red Sox. He was affectionately known by many as "Roundman" and known by a precious few as "Pawpaw".

 

Jerry will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV. A graveside service will be held on Monday October 12th at 12:00 with pastor Mark Smearman officiating. Honoring Jerry as pallbearers will be Mike and Mitch Maxwell, Ross and Ryan Bailey, Jason Hall, and Robert Roberts.

Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:00 PM. The family is accepting online condolences at www.cravens-shires.com.

 

The Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Road, Bluefield, WV is in charge of arrangements.
