George Lee Davis

January 2, 1926 — February 4, 2020

George Lee Davis, 94, of Green Spring Road, Abingdon, VA, and formerly of Anawalt, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at his home.

Born on January 2, 1926 in Anawalt, he was a son of the late George Washington and Dora Alice Roark Davis. He was a retired coal miner with US Steel and was a Sunday school superintendent and founding member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Jenkinjones. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wives, Wilma Jewel Niswander Davis, Dorothy Mae Smith Davis, and Helen Virginia Justice Davis; 6 brothers, and 5 sisters. He was the last surviving member of his family.

Survivors include his daughters, Carolyn (John) Cole of Abingdon, VA, and Denise (Sam) Underwood of Bluefield, WV; sons, David (Martha) Davis of Greenbrier, TN and Teddy (Trisha) Davis of Springfield, TN; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Ed Fisher and Rev. David Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Friends may call on Saturday from 12:00-1:00 PM at the funeral home.
