Celebrating a Life Well Lived
Gary Wayne Witt, 78, formerly of Bluefield, West Virginia, and most recently of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. Born on September 16, 1946, at the family home on Littlesburg Road in Bluefield, Gary was a man who lived a life devoted to his family.
A respected member of the Brushfork community for 60 years, Gary was known for his kind heart, unrivaled sense of humor, strong work ethic, and unwavering support of his friends and neighbors. He worked as a precision machinist at Coppinger’s Machinery and Eimco for 38 years, demonstrating dedication and skill in his trade. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandson Chad.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 60 years, Brenda Jean Witt (White); his daughters, Vickie Witt of Boones Mill, Virginia; Robin Hall (Michael), and grandson, Chad Hall, all of Bluefield, Virginia; sister, Connie Wilmer (Michael) of Tazewell, Virginia; sister-in-law, Brenda Phillips Witt of Hardy, Virginia; brother-in-law, Charles White (Lee) of Goldsboro, North Carolina, and several cherished nephews and nieces.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Roy J. and Irene Jackson Witt, of Bluefield; his brother, Roy David Witt of Hardy, Virginia; paternal grandparents, Roy W. and Cora Starling Witt; and maternal grandparents, Daniel and Naomi Perdue Jackson, all of Bluefield.
Pallbearers are David Witt, Jared Witt, Jim Helms, Les Pearce, William T. Hedrick, Stephen Abshire, Mark Kinder, and Trey Surface. Honorary pallbearers are James Jackson, Louis McCray, Charles White, and Andrew Slemp.
Pastor Rod Hedrick of the Memorial Church of Christ will officiate a private family service on December 13, 2024, at 11 o’clock with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
