Lance Corporal Gary Kyle Hensley, Sr., 74 of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, formerly of Skygusty, WV went to be with the Lord on November 9th, 2023, in a Florida hospital following an unexpected illness.
Born August 7th, 1949, in Greenville, TN, he was the son of the late Wayne and Claudine Hensley of Skygusty, WV. Gary was retired from the US Steel Corporation and was a veteran of the US Marines serving in Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife Brenda Johnson Hensley of the home; daughter, Cynthia Hensley Turner of Bedford, VA, his son, Gary Hensley, Jr of Orlando, Florida, 2 grandchildren, Austin Turner and wife, Heather, and Chandler Turner of Bedford, VA, and one great-grandson Landon Turner. He is also survived by his siblings Brenda Day and husband Ernest of TN, Lonnie Hensley and wife, Regina of WV, Jane Justice of CO, and Christie Jassak and husband Brian of NY.
He was preceded in death by his brother Vestal (Kenny) Hensley and his Sister Lisa Brammeier of CO.
He had a sense of humor that would leave you belly laughing and could be quite a prankster. He would goose his mother in the ribs while she was doing dishes and fall to the floor to avoid punishment. He loved to sneak up and scare you senseless, laughing the entire time. Needless to say, he was the family clown.
His final wishes included making amends with anyone that you love because life is shorter than you think, make a difference in the life of a child, and keep your heart focused on God. He will sincerely be missed by his family and everyone who knew him.
He will be honored in a military service on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Road, Bluefield, WV, at 1:30 PM with Minister Nick Marrs officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call from 12:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
