Frederick Ray "Rat" Kirk

Frederick Ray “Rat” Kirk, 70, of Idle Acres Road Bluefield, West Virginia passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Charleston Area Medical Center – General Division in Charleston, West Virginia.

Frederick was born on September 29, 1948 in Coalwood, West Virginia to the late Gaylord and Pearl Billings Kirk. He was a retired coal miner with 43 years underground and member of the UMWA. Frederick had been a resident of Bluefield for the past ten years and was of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Vickie Delconte and Katherine Gemmete.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years Sally Lockhart Kirk of the home; one son Frederick G. Kirk wife Jackie of Coalwood, West Virginia; two daughters Missy Kirk and companion James Christian of Coalwood, West Virginia and Amy Gibson and companion Chris Crabtree of Lebanon, Virginia. Two brothers Curtis Kirk of Florida and Glen Kirk of Welch, West Virginia; three sisters Wanda Polsinelli of Michigan, Norma Kirk of Michigan and Janice Pierce of Welch, West Virginia. Six grandchildren, Megan Price and husband Jason of North Carolina, Joshua Graham and companion Siearra Price of Tazewell, Virginia, Merissa Gibson and companion Rocky Barton of Lebanon, Virginia, Logan Kirk of North Carolina, Blake Gibson of Coalwood, West Virginia and Amber Kirk and companion Tyler Roney of Coalwood, West Virginia and three great grandchildren, Sveva and Emma Price and Remington Gibson. He is also survived by a very special nephew Tony Santo and wife Sue of Pickens, South Carolina and a very, very special friend David “Doc” Skewes of Dublin, Virginia.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 05, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Long and Pastor Joe Moore officiating the service. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Mausoleum in Bluewell, West Virginia where Sam Christian, Brandon Grose, Dakota Collins, Lee Beggs, Jared Price, John Pack, Rocky Barton, Clarence Belcher will be serving as pallbearers.

The Kirk family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, June 04, 2019 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
