Ernest “Ernie” Rose Sr. of Skygusty, WV passed away, Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the McDowell Health Care, in Gary WV “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Born on June 8, 1944, in Anawalt WV, to the late George Rose Jr. and Sophia Rachel Mikels. Ernest proudly served 9 years in the United States Army and toured in the Vietnam War. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Carter Machinery for 15 years. He was an avid lover of baseball and umpired for many years for Atkins District. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Sandra Barnes and Juanita Rose and brothers, Billy, Gene and David Rose. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Parks Rose of the home; sons Kevin Rose (Paula) of Bluefield, WV, Ernest Rose Jr. (Nicole) of NC, and Charles Rose (Ginger) of Princeton, WV; daughters Tammi Steele (Joe) of Maybeury, WV, Angie Mulkey (Bucky) of Skygusty, WV; brothers, Jack Rose (Patsy) of NC; sisters, Nannie Mathews (Al) of NC, Alma “Cookie” Barnes (Ricky) of SC, and Dorothy Bryant of WV; 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, who were the love and joy of his life. Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 PM, Monday, May 22, 2023, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Crabtree officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Bluefield, VA where friends and family will serve as pallbearers. Military graveside service will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. The family would like to thank the staff at McDowell Health Care, for the great care given to him, while he was there. The family will receive friends at 12 PM until 1.
