Ernest Cook

November 16, 1926 — January 30, 2018

Ernest William Cook, Sr., 91, of New Hope Road, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Ridge Care Nursing Home in Princeton.

 

Born on November 16, 1926 in Parksville, KY, he was a son of the late Arthur William and Laura Honaker Cook. He had been a resident of New Hope Road for 63 years and was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church where he spent so many good times worshiping our Lord with friends. He also loved to sing and play the guitar to anyone who would listen. He was a retired foreman for US Steel and had worked in the coal industry for 40 years. He was a US Army veteran and served in World War II. He was a member of the Bramwell Masonic Lodge.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rettie Mae Cook; and 10 brothers and sisters.

 

He will lovingly be remembered by his:

4 grandchildren:               Courtney Cook of Summerville, SC

                                                Tom Akers of Selbyville, DE

                                                Marie Collins and Matt of Princeton

                                                Dr. Emmeline Cook, PhD. of Richmond, VA

 

2 great grandchildren:    Anna-Neale Houck of Richmond, VA

                                                James Lagoa of Summerville, SC

 

Extended family:              Patti Cook and Peggy Akers

 

Host of nieces and nephews

 

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Dr. Dan Jividen and Rev. Donald Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where Lewis Lunsford, Dave Lyons, Mark Repass, Allan Harbour, Mike Barker and Buford Saddler will serve as pallbearers. Joe Sharp and Darrell Wade will serve as honorary pallbearers.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ‘sign fund’ at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1000 New Hope Road, Princeton, WV 24740.

 

Friends may call on Friday from 6-8PM at the funeral home.
