Elizabeth (Libby) Ann Rose was born in Louisville, Kentucky on August 18, 1945. She was the daughter of the late Charles C. Saddler and Mary E. Saddler. Libby had an idyllic childhood with her five sisters growing up on Peel Chestnut Mountain. Libby was a long-term resident of Bluefield, WV and she also lived in Virginia, Georgia, and Washington State. She bravely enlisted in the US Army during a time of war. She subsequently had a long career as a nurse working for the Bluefield Regional Medical Center and she also worked for a private family practice. She was proud to have assisted in the birth of hundreds of babies during her time as a nurse. After retirement, she spent many years caring for and doting on her only grandson. Libby was extremely talented, and she loved knitting, cross-stitch, photography, sewing, cooking, baking, and cake decorating. Libby was one of a kind, she was strong-willed, dependable and always generous, loving, and kind. She positively impacted the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Libby is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Donna Hartwell. Left to cherish Libby’s memory are her son, grandson Drake Saddler, daughter-in-law Dawn Saddler, her sisters, Norma Gillespie, Charlene Carter and husband William, Mary Jane Hurley and husband Mike, and Martha Goodwin, and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 11:00AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Michael Hartwell officiating. Burial will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA, where the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Full Military Graveside Honors. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM – 11:00AM at the funeral home on Friday, June 30. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Saddler family.
