Elbert Cleveland Street

Elbert Cleveland Street, or Cleve to his friends, age 75 of Brushfork, West Virginia, passed away on August 15, 2017, at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. He was born on August 30, 1941, in Rowe, Virginia to the late Alden and Jenny Street. He was preceded in death by his brothers Mel Street and Elijah Street, sister Birchie Street, brothers-in-law George and James Rakes, and grandmother Caroline Stacy. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Polly Street, brother and best friend Harry Street, dog and loving companion Coco, daughters Pamela and husband Tony Carinelli and Patricia and husband Rodney Smith, and son Elbert II and wife Amber Street; his grandchildren Andrea Washington, Brandon Street, Joshua and Wife Cassie Street, Jordan and wife Amanda Carinelli, Kamber and husband Oaka Mcguire, Kayla and husband Brad Fox, Brittany Smith, and Austin Smith; his great-grandchildren Daniel Street, Ava Street, Emma Washington, Erin Street, and Brandon Street Jr.; his sisters and brothers-in-law Barbara Lemons, Roger and Peggy Rakes, Judy and Randall Muncy, Jack and Barbara Rakes, Betty Taylor, Jo Ann Rakes, and Betty Jackson; and an extensive loving family consisting of many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Elbert Street was married to Polly Rakes on August 1, 1960, in Lebanon Virginia. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather, and great grandfather. In addition to their own children, Elbert and Polly raised Polly’s brothers and sisters after the untimely passing of their parents. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he learned the craft he would use for the rest of his life. After his honorable discharge he opened Bluefield Upholstery, the business he would come to devote his life to, and the business he left to his apprentice and son-in-law Tony Carinelli. Elbert and Harry enjoyed taking trips with his company Fortune Seekers, a great source of enjoyment for him and many members of the community that wanted to travel to casinos in Atlantic City, Cherokee, and Charleston. He also loved to go camping. He spent many years camping with family throughout the two Virginias, and he always looked forward to a yearly trip to Myrtle Beach. The number of people whose lives were impacted by Elbert is vast and the love he showed for his family and friends truly knew no bounds. The world has lost an amazing father, grandfather, and friend and the whole that is left by his passing can never be filled. His memory will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those who loved him. . The funeral services will be conducted at Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 11:00am at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor James Mooney officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with Brandon Street, Joshua Street, Jordan Carinelli, Austin Smith, Oaka Mcguire, and Brad Fox serving as pallbearers. The Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors.   The family will receive friends from Friday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.   Online condolences will be accepted at www.cravens-shires.com
