Effie Marie Cardwell, 69, of Rock, WV passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 at WVU Medicine, Bluefield Regional. Born November 2, 1954, Effie was a daughter of the late Bonnie McCoy and Eva Irene Farmer Hodges. She had previously worked in housekeeping at Princeton Community Hospital and was a member of Montcalm Church of Christ. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was kind and willing to help out anyone. She had a great love for the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James Edward Hodges, Buster Hodges, and Lawrence Hodges; and sisters, Della Ann Hodges, and Edna Mae King.
Those left to cherish Effie’s memory are her husband of 48 years, Paul Cardwell of the home; daughters, Melissa Thomas of Rock, WV, and Rebecca Mabe and husband, Charles of Brushfork, WV; son, Thomas Cardwell and wife, Ivanna of Bluewell, WV; brother, Johnny Hodges and wife, Debbie of Princeton, WV; sister, Faye Bailey of Montcalm, WV; sister-in-law, Melinda Hodges of Princeton, WV; special friend, James Abram; grandchildren, Nina Spanglehour and husband, Robert, Amanda Bailey, Mark Mabe and wife, Summer, Hunter Mabe who was Effie’s caretaker, and wife Aliyah, Kiersten Mabe, and Hazel Grace Cardwell; great-grandchildren, Anna Codd and Ben & Chloe Spanglehour.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, November 6, 2023 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Eddie Via officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens where family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Cardwell family.
