Edward Stanley Stress, 84 passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at Bluefield Regional Hospital. Born December 24, 1933 in Stirrat, WV, he was the son of late Joseph and Mary Helen Diviak Stress. He was a proud Air Force Veteran in the Korean War, a coal miner, and a Deacon at the East End Baptist Church, Bluefield, WV. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid gardener and he never met a stranger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Sizemore and Sophia Prichard; two brothers Joseph Stress Jr, and Walter Stress. Survivors include his wife, Carrie Mae Stress, two daughters, Donna Kay Thornsbury and husband Michael of Hedgesville, WV, Margaret Ann Compton and husband Robert of Jolo, WV; three grandsons, Steven Brett Austin Bailey of Welch, WV, David Wayne Hughes and wife Dara of Gary, WV, Scotty Lee Hughes and wife Crystal of Raysal,WV; three great grandchildren, Robert Edward Hughes, Donovan Poore and wife Kristen, and Hannah Burks; one brother Edwin Allen Stress and wife Cathy of Yukon, WV; three sisters, Margaret Perry and husband Leon, Helen Christian and husband Lundy, Judy Hayes and husband Lundy of Plant City, FL. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday December 29, 2017, at 1:00 PM at the Cravens- Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV with Pastor Gary Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Garden, Cedar Bluff, VA.Friends may call on Friday from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
