Edward Earl McNeil, 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends in Raleigh General Hospital on Wednesday, July 18, following a long illness.
Formerly of Powhatan, Mr. McNeil had been a resident at McDowell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gary for the past fifteen months.
Born Nov. 30, 1927, in Maybeury, WV, to the late Wint and Minnie Severt McNeil, he graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1945 and served in the U.S. Army in Korea just prior to the Korean War. Mr. McNeil spent most of his working career employed by A&P Food Stores and later at Davidson’s in Northfork, WV. He was a member of the Elkhorn United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of directors and in various other positions for many years. During the 1970’s, Mr. McNeil was part of a well-known local quartet known as the Singing Disciples.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the true love of his life, Louise Robinson McNeil, in 2002.
Left to cherish his memory are his son David McNeil and wife Debbie of Upland, WV as well as several members of his wife’s family who had become like brothers and sisters to him. He is also survived by seven nieces and their families who were special in his life.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at 5:00 PM by Rev. Olen Robertson and Pastor Ken Evans at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV.
Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to the service on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the funeral home. The graveside committal service will be held on Monday, July 23, at noon, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery; Pallbearers will be friends and family attending the committal service on Monday. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Robinson, John Mikels, Earl McNeil, Roy McNeil, Jerry Cumby, Jonathan Mikels, Justin Mikels, and Danny Adams.
