Edward Lee "Tex" Horton

October 11, 1932 — May 20, 2019

Edward Lee Horton, 86, of 540 Hurricane Ridge Road, Bluefield, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Princeton Community Hospital with his family by his side.

Born October 11, 1932 in Montcalm, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Horton & Agnes Hodges Horton. Edward was a lifelong resident of Mercer County & graduated from Bramwell High School. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW Post 9696. Edward was a retired coal miner working 39 years with Eastern Coal Corporation. He was also a member of the UMWA. Edward attended Mt. Grove Community Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Dimple Williamson.

Survivors include his devoted & loving wife of 64 years, Minnie Horton. Three sons, Edward Horton II & wife, Cindy of Morgantown, WV, Larry Horton & girlfriend, Teresa Wiley of Bluefield, WV & Michael Horton & wife, Lisa of Bluefield, WV. Four grandsons, Adam Horton, Edward "Lee" Horton III, Jacob Horton & Christian Horton. One granddaughter, Kelli Horton. Sisters, Agnes Bell of Bramwell, WV & Norma Stepps of Bluefield, WV.

Edward’s grandkids were the love & light of his life. His constant companions around his home were his 4 legged friends, Maddie & Jake. Edward was known all around for his passion of hunting & fishing. He especially enjoyed time spent in the woods with his Dad, sons, grandchildren & friends. Edward loved to talk to people & telling them stories of his hunting & fishing trips.

We would like the thank Paul Pettrey from the Beckley VA Medical Center for taking such special care of Edward. They both definitely found a friend in one another.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00pm on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Wayne Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where military honors being performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Roger Bell, Johnny Bell, Jacob Horton, Christian Horton, Brett Carroll, Edward Lee Horton, III, Larry Cordle & Shannon Brim. 

Friends may call at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell on Wednesday from 6-8pm.
