Edith Parker Miller, 87, of 2705 Clovis Street, Bluefield, WV passed away peacefully listening to music, holding her niece's hand on July 21, 2024 at Princeton Hospital.
Edith was born on October 26, 1936 at home on Peel Chesnut Mountain to the late James Edgar Murphy and Grace Dove Murphy. Edith attended Abbs Valley Elementary, Pocahontas High School and Bluefield State College. She worked over 50 years at Bluefield Supply/Rish Equipment Company and retired as manager of equipment purchasing and inventory control.
Although she never had children of her own, she was “mom” and “grandmother” to many. Edith helped provide and raise her brothers and sisters and many times bought their whole Christmas. She was a very special aunt to her nieces and nephews and made sure to make each one feel special, as she never forgot a birthday or Christmas. She gave some spending money for college, babysat some, bought tires for their cars or gave “just because” money and gifts. One nephew that lived close had a trail through the woods to get to her house and she was more like a grandmother to him than aunt. Edith was a classy lady who liked pretty clothes, make-up, jewelry, and getting her nails done. She loved flowers, anything pink, and her family.
In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Passan, Sharon Purdie, and Carol Spencer; and four brothers, Jimmy, Porter, Ben, and David Murphy.
Edith is survived by two brothers, Curtis Murphy of Rock, WV, and Bill Murphy and wife, Sharon (who was always considered her sister) of Abbs Valley, VA.
She is also survived by her loving husband, Jimmy Miller and his son Tommy and wife, Shannon; granddaughter, Courtney Miller; and great-granddaughter, Wrenley Angle; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends as well as special friend, Mary Hypes Dove who helped Edith for many years.
Edith’s passing has left a hole in our hearts full of special memories but even in her death, she is giving the gift of tissue donation for skin graft and burn victims.
