Edgar "Sonny" Lawson, 84, of Thorpe, WV, passed away in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by his children, on Wednesday, March 11, 2020.
He was born on March 15, 1935 to the late Edgar and Bethel Knipp Lawson. He was a member of the Longpoint Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Leola Cochran Lawson, brother, Charles Lawson and his loving granddaughter, Leah Lawson.
Sonny is survived by his children, Susan Lawson of Pikeville, KY, Kathy (Joe) Robinson of Princeton, WV, Larry (Martha) Lawson of Pageton, WV, grandson Michael (Autumn) Robinson of Kingsport, TN, great- grandchildren Leighara Lawson, Tucker Robinson, and soon-to-be baby boy Robinson. Brother Allen Lawson, sisters Garnett Faye Farmer and Bonnie Fowler. Many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
Sonny proudly served in the United States Marine Corp and loved sharing stories about his service with others. He worked in the coal mines for the biggest part of his life. When he retired from the coal mines, he worked as a welder until the age of 77.
Sonny will be fondly remembered for his love of cutting grass and feeding wildlife in his back yard. He was an avid animal lover. His dog, Bruzetta, and his cat, Susie, will now make their home with his daughter, Susan.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, WV, with his great-nephew, Reverend Donald Farmer, Ill., officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
