Dorwin D. Byrd

Dorwin Douglas Byrd, 81, passed peacefully in his sleep Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Mercer Healthcare Center in Bluefield, WV.

Born on April 13, 1943, in Carswell, West Virginia to the late Fred Franklin Byrd and Claire Sizemore Byrd. He was a 1961 graduate of Bramwell High School. He also attended McClains Business College. He worked in banking for over 40 years.

Dorwin enjoyed playing piano and directing the choir at Bluewell United Methodist Church for 35 years. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed planting his flowers and beautifying his yard every spring.

He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother Franklin Fred Byrd.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Herndon Byrd, two daughters, Laura Leigh Byrd-Poszich and her husband, Jereomy, and Alison Renee Reed and her husband Michael. His four grandchildren who were the light of his life, Clayden Tyler Byrd, Gabriel Orian Reed, Radien Michael Bjoin Reed and Veronika Audrey Briann Reed.  His sister, Nancy Byrd Moses, and her two children.  Brother-in-law, Ronnie Herndon, Sister-in-law, Barabara Herndon Bailey and her husband, Rusell.  A host of cousins, nieces and great-nieces and nephew.

Cravens-Shires Funeral Home will be serving the family on Thursday, March 20, 2025, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00a.m. with Pastor Sheri Kernik leading the services, and entombment to follow at Woodlawn.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Bluewell United Methodist Church’s general fund.
