Dorothy (Dot) James, 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Wilmington, NC where she had resided for 6 years and lovingly cared for. Dot was born in Coopers in 1921.She lived in Maryland for 30 years where she and her husband raised their family. Upon their retirement, they moved back to West Virginia where they ran the General Store in Sandlick for several years. Dot was a homemaker, loved her family, and enjoyed her gardens and feeding wild birds. She worked in children’s day care for several years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Blanche and Wiley Hill; her husband Earl “Buck” James; a son, Gary “Jimmy” James; brothers, Herman Hill, Harold Hill, Howell Hill, Hampton Hill and Teddy Hill; sisters, Hattie Rigney and Hilda “Honey” Johnson; and a dear cousin, Hazel Lipford. She is survived by: Daughters: Beverly Joe Sloan of Green Valley, AZ Sherry Thompson and husband Dave of Wilmington, NC Grandchildren: Annie Bailey of Tucson, AZ and Mark Thompson of Wilmington, NC She is also survived by many nieces and nephews Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. James Milam officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Friends may call on Friday afternoon from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
