Dorothy J. (Dot) Hale

October 21, 1924 — August 6, 2018

Dorothy J. (Dot) Beard Hale, 93, of Bluewell, WV, passed away on August 6, 2018, following a lengthy illness. Dot was born October 21, 1924, in Bluefield, VA. She was the daughter of the late Lindsay L. and Ruby B. Beard. She married R. S. (Ruck) Hale on July 14, 1945 and was married 45 years until Ruck's death in 1990.

Dot was a homemaker and business owner, who lived in Bluewell for more than 70 years. She and Ruck, built and opened Lynn's Drive Inn located in Bluewell, WV, in 1950. They went on to build several other properties as well. Dot was the bookkeeper for their businesses, however, a benchmark in her legacy is.......creating the original chili recipe which tops the famous hot dogs served at Lynn's to this day.

Dot was a devoted member of the Bluewell United Methodist Church for 69 years and taught the Adult Ladies Loyalettes Sunday School Class for 50 years. She was also a long-standing member of the church's music ministry, serving as a choir member, pianist, and organist. Dot also actively served on numerous committees within the church. In 1988, Bluewell United Methodist Church surprised Dot with a church-wide “Dot Hale Day.” She was honored with a luncheon along with special acknowledgments for her many contributions. Dot had a great love for learning and studied her Bible daily. Dot was a woman of God whose faith was deep and abiding.

Dot's pastimes included crossword puzzles, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She loved music, loved to laugh, and loved time spent with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are: daughters Sherry Hale, Salamanca, New York; Kathy Sarver, Bluefield, WV; and son, R. Lyn Hale, Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Nicole Disibbio Marsh and husband, Jason, Salamanca, New York; Matthew Sarver, Bluefield, WV; and Beth Sarver, Atlanta, GA. Great grandchildren, Lucas and Courtney Marsh. Also surviving are a sister Janice Beard Longworth, Roanoke, VA. and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would also like to extend heartfelt love and appreciation to Dot's special caregiver, Missy Johnson.

Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2018, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with a celebration and remembrance graveside service of Dot's life to follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Bluewell, WV.
