Dorothy Chizmar

Dorothy D. Chizmar 91, of Bluefield, WV, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Westwood Center in Bluefield, VA.  She was born November 14, 1931 in Elkhorn, WV and was the daughter of the late Luke Delida and Mary Semonco Delida. She graduated from Elkhorn High School and was previously employed by Crozier Coal and Land.  Mrs. Chizmar was a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church where she was the former treasurer, received the diocese award for her years of service and a member of the St. Mary’s Ladies Alter Society. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest and daughter, Sandra Leigh Rossouw of Dallas, Texas, brothers, Peter, Luke, Michael, Andrew, Paul, George, John, Frank and sister Anna.

Survivors include her children, Patricia Shaffer and husband Frank, of Herndon, VA and Michael Chizmar and wife Sandra, of The Villages, FL, Marc Rossouw, son-in-law, Dallas Texas.  Grandchildren, John Shaffer and wife Laura, Katie Thorpe and husband, Dameon, Melanie Butler and husband, Pat, Kristin Ulseth and husband Josh, Derek Worrell and wife, Stefanie, and Scott Gray and wife, Debbie. Great grandchildren, Emily Thorpe, Hannah Thorpe, Daniel Butler, William Butler, Palmer Worrell, Mercer Worrell, Kailea Gray and Tyler Gray.  

The family greatly appreciates and thanks the Westwood Center staff for their love, care and support. 

Visitation will be Thursday from 6 PM – 8 PM at Cravens – Shires Funeral Home

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 1, 2023, at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Bluefield, WV with Rev. Father Michael Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
