Doris J. Shoemaker, 75, of Bluefield, VA, and formerly of Clarksville, TN, and Bramwell, WV, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 23, 2021.
Family and friends will celebrate her life with a memorial service, Saturday, March 27 at 3 p.m. at First Christian Church, 2200 Bland Road, Bluefield, WV, with Rev. Doug McDaniel and Dr. Doug Hyndrich officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Born October 15, 1945 in Detroit, MI, Doris was the daughter of the late Elvis and Clara Goodwin. She was also a loving wife of 53 years to husband Glenn Shoemaker, who passed away in 2018; a devoted mother to sons Brian and Chris and his wife Dee; a caring grandmother to Andrew, Justin and his fiancé Alyssa, Ben and his wife Aubrey, Michelle, Nicholas, Samuel and Abigail; and an adoring great-grandmother to Noah, Emma and Caleb.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by brother Kenny Goodwin. Other survivors include sister Ibby Simpkins and husband Don, sister Sandi Sykes and husband David, brother Randy Goodwin and wife Connie, sister-in-law Shelia Goodwin, and a host of special nieces and nephews.
Doris was a retired switchboard operator for Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville. She also worked as a registered nurse in Bluefield, WV, after serving as a longtime homemaker. She was a faithful member of Bramwell Wesleyan Church, where she served as a Board member, youth leader and head of the Women’s Missionary Society. In Clarksville, she was a member of Hilldale Baptist Church. Dedicated to her community, she also served as a member of the Bramwell Town Council and Bramwell Garden Club and president of the Bramwell High School Parent-Teachers Association (PTA).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Bramwell Theatre Foundation, P.O. Box 188, Bramwell, WV 24715.
