Donna Marlene Howell, age 64, of Killen, AL, formerly of Princeton, went home to be with her Heavenly Father. She fought a hard fight against her lung cancer, but, just could fight no longer. On Friday, May 11, 2018 in Florence, AL she was called home to be an angel.Born on November 4, 1953, in Princeton, she was a daughter of the late Peggy Hammonds. She was a graduate of Athens High School and had retired as a school bus driver for Mercer County Board of Education. She was a special human being who loved and cared for everything and everybody. She never met an animal she didn’t love or want to help. She loved riding and showing her horses and was a true cowgirl in every aspect. She now resides in Heaven with Jesus Christ as an angel on horseback. She was also an award winning wood carver and artist as well as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Mervin P. Grogan. She said that the late Elmer Howell and Eva Lucy Howell, her father and mother-in-law, were considered not only her in -laws, but, her true parents as well.Left to cherish her memory are:Her husband of 40 years, Paul Howell who lost his best friend, partner, and love of his life in MarleneHer son, Dr. Aaron M. Howell of Naples, FL, who was her proudest accomplishment, as well as his wife, Erin Howell and little angel, her granddaughter, Hayley Howell whom she cherished.Her brother-in-law, Dr. J. Stephen Howell of Florence, AL, whom she considered her brotherHer mother-in-law, Eva Lucy Howell as well as many nieces, nephews, great- nieces, and great-nephewsHer sisters, Georgia Wilcox and husband Jason of Ohio, Imogene Richards King, and Peggy Jo Richards FoleyFuneral services will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Allen Mullins officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Rolen, Jim Osborn, Lee Lewis, Kermit Morgan, and her horseback riding friends. Friends may call on Sunday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.
