Donald R. Thomas, 81, of Harry Street, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem, VA.
Born on February 2, 1940 in Bluewell, he was a son of the late Georgia Steelman and Harvey Holleman. He had been a lifelong resident of Bluewell and was an active member of the Mid-Way Christian Church. He was retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Company as a merchandiser and was a veteran of the US Army. He was an avid Bluefield Beavers fan, especially football and basketball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jamey Brinkley; a son in law, Roger Lynch, 4 sisters and 2 brothers
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Freda Boyd Thomas of the home; daughters, Charlene (Mike) Young of Bluefield, VA, Della (Roger) Keen of Kegley, WV, Reva Lynch of St. Louis, MO, and Deborah Adkins of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren; Ada, Myra, Nolan, Tanya (and her husband Scott and son Bronson), Michelle, Donnie, Lynn, David and Samantha; 18 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Jean (Biff) Willis of Green Valley, WV.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Minister Dan Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call prior to services on Monday, from 12:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Don’s memory to the Youth Fund at Mid-Way Christian Church, 3014 Big Laurel Highway, Bluefield, WV, 24701 or the Bluefield Union Mission, 2203 Bluefield, WV 24701.
