Donald Roosevelt Irvin, 89, of Bluefield WV, passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2024.
Donald was born on October 7, 1934 at Bluefield Sanitarium, a son of William C Irvin and Ona Mae Ratcliff Irvin. He was a graduate in the 1953 class of Bluefield High School. After graduation, he worked in the automobile manufacturing industry in Cleveland, then he moved to Chicago to study electronics at Coyne Electrical School.
Donald served his country as a member of the US Army from 1958 to 1961. He was stationed in France and Luxembourg where he installed and maintained the Radio communication equipment used by NATO.
Returning to Bluefield, he began work as a television repair technician for Bluefield Supply Company. Mary Jean Todd worked there too, and they married in 1965. He later became a well-known television repair technician for Sears Roebuck and retired in 1996.
In retirement, he enjoyed being a grandfather, working jigsaw puzzles, and the study and discussion of the European theatre of World War II.
He was a member of the former Calvary Baptist Church, and then joined Cumberland Heights Baptist Church.
Donald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Todd Irvin, son William and son-in-law Xing Lin of Camas Washington, daughter Cathy Cline and son-in-law Tony of Bluefield WV, and son Michael of Bluefield. Donald is also survived by grandchildren Zachary, Ashley, Emma, and Liam.
Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield WV on Wednesday January 17, 2024 at noon. A service officiated by Pastor Jim Kestner with military honors will be held at 1PM, followed by private interment.
