Dolly Jane Adkins Thomason

Dolly Jane Adkins Thomason, 73, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 31, 2020. Born February 20, 1947 in Bluefield, West Virginia, Dolly was a resident of Bedford, Virginia since 2003, and formerly of Chesapeake, Virginia. She retired from a job she loved as a medical transcriptionist at Chesapeake General Hospital in 2003, and upon moving to Bedford, chose to work again as a medical transcriptionist at Lynchburg Baptist Hospital, where she retired once again in 2013. Dolly loved spending time with her family, cooking and baking for those she loved, and traveling. Dolly was a faithful member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Forest, Virginia. Dolly was a daughter of the late Virgil and Irene Bowman Adkins, daughter in law of the late Mildred Perdue Thomason; sister of the late Harry Adkins, Farrell Adkins, Alma Dunn, Shelvia Chandler, Donald Adkins, and Marshall Adkins. Those left to cherish Dolly’s memory are her husband of 53 years, Michael Thomason of Bedford, VA; one son, Michael J. Thomason and wife, Yuki of Bedford, VA; one daughter, Denise Shields and husband, Darian of Blue Ridge, VA; one grandson who called her Nana, Nathan Shields and fiancée Ali Shail of Blue Ridge, VA; one sister, Gayle Horn of Princeton, WV; treasured friends, Julie and John Mekosh of Clayton, NC; many brothers and sisters in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless dear friends and neighbors. Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 3:00 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Dr. Tom Thomas officiating. Friends may call prior to services, from 2:00-3:00 PM at the funeral home. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers to honor Dolly’s memory, donations in her name can be made to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 6045 Peter’s Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.
