On May 18, 2023, Dempsey C. Scott, 81, of Sebastian, Florida, passed away with his beloved wife, Sue, by his side. Dempsey was born on September 7, 1941, in Switchback, West Virginia, to the late William Howard and Stella Anders Scott. He attended Northfork Elkhorn High School and soon enlisted in the United States Army returning home in 1961 to marry his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Sue Buckner. He served 5 ½ years in the US Army. Dempsey and Sue later moved to Edgewood, Maryland, where he worked 29 years for General Motors. After retiring, Dempsey and Sue moved to Sebastian, Florida, and spent summers in Bluewell, West Virginia, building strong communities of friends and families in both places. Dempsey could often be found with his guitar, joining friends or family to share his love of music. He attended the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Sebastian and Bramwell Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Cletus and Roger, sister, Audrey, and brothers-in-law, Benny Wells and Norbert Bressan. Dempsey is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sue Buckner; his siblings, Harold (Reba), Peggy Wells, Eva Bressan, Deborah (Paul) DaVilia, Danny (Glenda); a host of loving nieces and nephews; and special friends, Stanley and Mae Dillow, Gene and Mary Buckner, Betty and Carlos Casey, Ruth and John Peery, Janet and Bob Baugh, and Diane and Randy Lambert. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV, with Dr. Tracey Stout officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Mausoleum in Bluewell, WV where Neil Wells, John Peery, Randy Lambert, Bob Baugh, Stanley Dillow, and Donnie Goins will be serving as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Harold Scott, Danny Scott, Gene Buckner, and Carlos Cakey. The Mercer County Veterans Council and the West Virginia Honor Guard will conduct Full Military Graveside Honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 1:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2090 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
