Delana Sutphin Gibson of Brushfork School Road, Bluefield, WV, died peacefully at her home on Friday, August 11, 2017. She was born August 4, 1943, in Bluefield, WV, to the late James Harold and Eva Goforth Sutphin and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a graduate of Bluefield High School, Bluefield Business College, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Brushfork Baptist Church of Bluefield, WV. She retired after 30 years of service from First Community Bank of Bluefield but went back to work at the bank as a teller as long as her health permitted. For many years, DeLana was a special companion to her niece, Laura Modena, whom she loved very much. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband’s Cecil Walsh and Terry Treolo, special friend Jerry Akers, and special niece Erinn White Hollo. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 29 years, Carl Thomas Gibson and her four devoted and loving children. David Walsh (Terri) of Harvest, Alabama, Richard Walsh (Bonnie) of Lindside, WV, Suzanne Walsh Cruise (Kevin) of Apex, NC, Suzette Treolo Polinsky (Vinnie) of Fuquay Varina, NC and ten grandchildren who were the joy of her life: Michael and Andrew Walsh, James, Thomas, Elizabeth Walsh and Rebecca Walsh Wikle (Nick), Caroline Cruise, and Kaitlyn, Eric, and Lillian Polinsky and her two great-grandchildren who were truly a blessing, Jack and Everly Wikle. Survivors also include three sisters, Sylvia Wimmer (Raymond) of Bluefield, WV, Betty Thomas (Charlie) of Pawley's Island, SC, and Linda Modena (Ralph) of Princeton, WV, and one brother, James Harold Sutphin (Debbie) of Peterstown, WV, and a dear friend who was like a sister to her, Pam Whittaker of Bluewell, WV (Myrtle Beach and camping buddy), and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her. DeLana was blessed to have caring neighbors Stephen Abshire and Scott Browning who were always there when she called on them. A celebration of DeLana's life will be held at Cravens Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell on Monday, August 14, 2017, at 11:00 AM with Reverend Wes Lambert officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV where grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00AM to 11:00 AM the day of service.
