David Lee Bowles, 80, of Bluefield, WV, was called to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 6, 2022 after an extended illness. He passed away peacefully at home with family and friends by his side. David was born on December 17, 1941 in Welch to the late Frank and Aileen Buckland Bowles. David was a graduate of Welch High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. David was an appliance repairman for Sears, prior to working as a coal miner where he worked as a mechanic, electrician, and boss. He was a proud member of the UMWA. David was a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Bluewell and was an avid outdoorsman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Diana; sister, Retha Bowles; brothers, Harold, Ronald, Richard, and Donald Bowles. He is survived by his children, Jeffery Bowles of Kissimmee, FL; Dwayne (Trista) Bowles of Lewisburg, WV; and Angie (Don) Bowles King of Charleston, WV, sister, Debra Rose of Barboursville, WV and three brothers, Frank “Red” Bowles of Jacksonville, FL, Phillip Bowles of Beckley, WV and Daniel Bowles of Princeton, WV. David was a very proud and loving grandfather of Jason Bowles, Timothy Hampton, Hannah Bowles, Adam Bowles, Lauren Bowles, Abbie Bowles and Jacob Bowles. He was the great grandfather of Bentley, Charlotte, Penelope Hampton and Myla Bowles. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Bluewell with Rev. James Milam and Chaplain C.T. Lilly officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the church prior to services, from 12:00-2:00 PM on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to any hospice agency.
