David Lee Houk (D.L.), 64, of Falls Mills, Virginia formerly of Capels, West Virginia went home to be with the LORD on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at his residence. David was born May 11, 1953 in Welch, West Virginia to the late Clifford R. Houk and Dorothy A. Musick Houk. D.L. worked as a coal miner most of his life working for U.S. Steel and XMV Coalmines. He also worked several years for Bluefield Sanitary Board. D.L served his county in the US Army and was a faithful member of Bluewell Church of God. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters; Helen Meronuk and Carol Averill and three brothers Clifford Houk, Jr., Roger L. Houk and Larry Houk. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Linda S. Kelly Houk of the home, son David Houk, Jr. of the home, two daughters Jeanie Pender of Columbia, South Carolina and Patti Presley of Bluefield, Virginia. Brothers Robert Houk and wife Carrie of Premier, West Virginia and Dewayne Houk and wife Joyce of Brushfork, West Virginia. Eight grandchildren and one great grandson. D.L. will be sadly missed by his friends, nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia with Minister Dewayne Houk officiating the service. Burial will follow at Hilltop Cemetery in Bramwell, West Virginia where friends and relatives will serve as pallbearers. The Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military graveside rites to honor D.L. service to his county. The Houk family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences will be accepted at www.cravens-shires.com.
