David Aaron Gilbert Jr, 75 of Bluefield WV passed away at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley WV on Thursday September 2, 2021. David was born on January 1st 1946. David served in the United States Army from January 8th 1963 until January 28th 1965 as a heavy machine operator while stationed in Europe. After leaving the Army, David returned to Bluefield, WV where he worked as a coal miner for over 25 years. After David's career as a coal miner ended he began driving cross country for a trucking company. David proudly boasted during his driving career he had been to every state Capitol in the continental United States. After several years of cross country driving David decided he would like to spend more time with his family and started driving for Flowers Baking company where he eventually retired from. David's life long passion began when he was in the army and was introduced to basic electronic devices. During his entire life he enjoyed all types of electronics being with amateur (ham) radios and evolving over time to modern day computers. Although much of David's time was spent working he enjoyed family time on weekends with his wife and children. In the summer they family frequently vacationed at Claytor lake where they camped and boated. Upon retiring David became an avid bird and animal watcher. With. His beloved wife of 54 years Brenda Hollyfield Gilbert, who preceded him in death on November 16th 2019. David is survived by his loving daughters Carola Farmer (Blaine) of Lexington KY. Lynn Lasell (Jerard) Grandchildren Savannah Farmer, Olivia Farmer, Jordyn Farmer. Nephew Chris Hollyfield (Keri) Great nieces Kyra Hollyfield and Amber Hollyfield. The family will be welcoming guests on Sunday September 5, 2021 from 1:00-2:00 PM at Cravens-Shires funeral home in Bluewell WV.
