David Lee Gentry

June 21, 1946 — December 13, 2020

David Lee Gentry, 74, of the Westwood Center, Bluefield, VA, formerly of The Maples and Edgemont Drive, Bluefield, WV, went home to be with the Lord on December 13, 2020 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital due to complications of Covid-19 and other health concerns.

David was born in Keystone, WV, on June 21, 1946, he was the son of the late Clinton H. and Bertha E. Gentry. He had been a resident of Bluefield most of his life. He worked as a deputy county assessor in the area for years before having to retire early due to his health. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bluefield for most of his life and was a devout Christian. The church was very important to him. He enjoyed reading his Bible and taught a men’s bible study and Sunday School while at the Maples. He liked watching sci-fi movies, WVU Mountaineer Football and basketball, and NASCAR racing. He enjoyed reading and learning. He was extremely intelligent and knew a lot about a little bit of everything. David loved his family, friends and animals. He loved being social and didn’t know a stranger. He was known for his kind heart and soul. He was a true gentleman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger sister, Linda Gentry Wilson and his great niece, Jordan Arianna Crawley.

He is survived by his two nieces, Sheri L. (Terry) Delisi of Bluefield, VA and Susan M. Wilson of Bluefield, WV; brother in law, Wayne Wilson of Bluefield, WV, special cousins, Greg and Cheryl Leighton of Camden, AR and a host of other cousins.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV with Father Chad Slater officiating. Burial will follow.

Friends wishing to attend are asked to meet at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home on Wednesday prior to services, at 12:00 Noon. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Mercer County Animal Shelter.
