David Lee “Poppy” Fowler, 70, of Bluefield, VA passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Born April 5, 1951 in McDowell County, WV, he was a son of Bonnie Lawson Fowler and the late Billy Lee Fowler. David retired after 32 years as a Federal Mine Inspector, was a veteran of the United States Navy, and was a member of the Bastian Church of God. He taught Tae Kwon Do for 30 years and loved Mopar cars and horses. He loved his family and grandkids, who affectionately called him “Poppy.” He was never far away from his family. He and his wife, Margaret owned and operated Margaret's Corner Restaurant in Bluefield, VA where he was always willing to feed the police, firemen, and all others who needed help. David had a deep love for God and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In addition to his father, David was preceded in death by a grandson, Clayton David Fowler, and a brother, Billy Joe Fowler. Those left to cherish David’s memory are his wife of 45 years, Margaret Billips Fowler of the home; son, Clayton David Fowler of Falls Mills, VA; daughter, Stacy Lee Myers and husband, Mark of Bland, VA; brothers, Danny Ray Fowler and wife, Mary Ann of St. Mary’s, GA, and Barry Allen Fowler and wife, Julia of Athens, WV; five grandchildren, Addison Myers, Jacob Myers, Brandon Myers, Isabella G. Giampocaro, and Grayson M. Bradberry. Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 PM Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Pastor Cliff Bowman officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until the time of service. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Grandview Memory Gardens where nephews will serve as pallbearers. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend services are requested to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 AM.
