Curtis Ellwood Spinella, 80, of Flat Top, WV, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 after an extended stay at the VA Medical Center in Beckley.Born on March 22, 1937 in Switchback, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Martin Spinella. He had been a resident of Flat Top since 2005 and was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God in Beckley. He was a veteran of the US Navy and was a retired coal miner. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and the Sons of Italy.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Lee Spinella whom Curtis was so pleased with for his many accomplishments and the love he had for his family; sisters, Marie Acord, Josephine Bell, Jeanette Boyd, Lucy & Kathleen Spinella and Rosie Osborne; and brothers, Frank, James, Tony, Joe and Charles Spinella.Survivors include his:Wife of 58 years: Marcia “Nicki” Mandakunis Spinella of the home. Grandson: Joseph Spinella and wife Tonya of Bluefield. Two great grandchildren: Luke and Jude Spinella who were the joy of his life; Mother in law: Florence Mandakunis of Flat Top;Daughter in law: Gwen Belcher Spinella of Bluefield. A host of nieces and nephews that Curtis thought of as his children and grandchildrenFuneral services will be conducted on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. John Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at the Mandakunis Family Cemetery in Flat Top where John, Bruce, and Jason Mandakunis, Randy Lavender, Mike Hurley, and Jerry Treolo will serve as pallbearers.Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8PM at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers please send a donation payable to VA RECREATION at Beckley VAMC, 200 Vets Ave, Beckley, WV 25801
