Colman Scott Cope, 71, of Maybeury, WV died suddenly on March 8, 2022 at his residence. Mr. Cope, who was born October 26, 1950 in Welch, WV, was the son of the late William B. and Mary Cecil Cope. Colman was a disabled Vietnam War Veteran, serving in Vietnam from 1970 until 1971. A resident of Maybeury for 32 years, Coleman had many hobbies, including cooking, electronics, fishing, and walking in Bluefield City Park. He was devoted to his two cats, Pun-Kin and BW. Family and friends relied on his loyal support and help during any type of crisis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Cope, his great-nephew, Dwayne Jamal Cope, and his beloved companion of 32 years, Matha Johnson. Survivors include two sisters, Brenda Cope and Donna Viert of Arlington, VA; two nieces, Michelle Crim of Alexandria, VA, and Melissa (Missy) Cope of Arlington, VA; his sister-in-law, Patricia Cope of Crumpler, WV; three great-nephews, Jacob and Alexander Crim of Alexandria, VA, and Noah Cope of Arlington, VA. The family is respecting his request for a simple, quiet graveside service on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Monte Vista Park Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Mercer County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Those attending the service are asked to meet at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home at 12:30 PM.
