Claude Julian Mitchem

Claude Julian Mitchem, 84, of Pageton, WV, passed Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Mercer Nursing and Rehab in Bluefield, WV. 

Born November 30, 1938, in Pageton, WV, he was a son to the late Allen S. and Maudie Cooper Mitchem. Claude was a resident of Pageton for over 20 years and was a retired coal miner. He was of the Baptist faith. 

In addition to his parents, Claude was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Belcher Mitchem, 3 sisters, and 8 brothers. 

Those left to cherish Claude's memory are his sons, Alan Mitchem of Arkansas, James "Jim" Mitchem of Anawalt, WV, Shannon Mitchem and wife Mary Lou of Bluefield, WV, Timothy Mitchem and wife Renee of Arkansas, and Claude Perry of Anawalt, WV; daughters, Bobbi Mitchem of Alaska and Anna Casey Harper of North Carolina; sister, Danaze Greer Stamper and husband Shay of Skygusty, WV; brothers, Theodore Mitchem of Beckley, WV, Harry Mitchem and wife Annabelle of Anawalt, WV, and James Ronald Mitchem of Norfolk, VA; 8 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, WV, with Rev. Donnie Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at the Mitchem Family Cemetery on Burke Mountain with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services, from 10:00-11:00 AM.
