Clarence Darrow Lawson

March 9, 1931 — April 28, 2024

Clarence Dorrow Lawson (Dal) passed away April 28, 2024, in DeFuniak Springs, FL. Born March 9, 1931, in Yards, VA, he was a son of the late James Jefferson Lawson and Lillian Harritt Workman. In addition to his parents Dal was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Ann Tabor in 1979 and second wife JoAnne Layne in 1996. Clarence married Margaret Ann Tabor on June 18, 1949, and JoAnne Layne on August 22, 1980. Clarence and Margaret raised five children, Wade Cecil and wife, JoAnn Lawson of DeFuniak Springs, FL, James Darrow (JD) and wife, Alice Lawson of Princeton, WV, Sarah Diana and husband Jeff Rogers of Lincolnton, NC, Dennis Ray and wife, Vicki Lawson of DeFuniak Springs, FL, and James Neal and wife, Shannon Lawson of Loganville, GA.

Clarence is also survived by his brother Sherman Richard Lawson of Fort Worth, TX, and his sister and best friend, (Sis) Catherine Lawson Gillespie of Big Stone Gap, VA.

Clarence worked for N&W Railroad and then went on to work for Tabor Machine shop in Brushfork until his retirement in 1990. He lived in Bluewell from 1963 until September 2022. Due to failing health, he moved to DeFuniak Springs, FL to live with Wade Cecil. While in Bluewell you would see him on his Farmall Tractor during the winter season going around the neighborhood cleaning snow off of driveways for his neighbors. He had a green thumb, and we were convinced he could grow a garden on concrete because he loved to grow his garden. Then, he took up wood craft and always was handing out his beautiful work. Clarence was a member of Point of Contact Ministries in Bluefield, WV.

Clarence was blessed with 5 children, 4 grandsons, 8 granddaughters, 13 great-grandkids, and 6 great-great-grandkids.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Rev. Brandon Nowlin and Dr. Eddie Johnson officiating.
