Charles D.W. Greer

Charles D.W. Greer, of Anawalt, devoted husband, father, and grandfather went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at his home after a long illness.
Born January 15, 1947, Charles was the son of Lonzo Roark and Zinner Young. Charles was of the Baptist faith and a member of Long Point Missionary Baptist Church. Charles served his country as an Army Combat Engineer in Vietnam from 1966-1968. Charles was a heavy equipment operator for Patsy Trucking and Corte Construction and the owner and operator of Danaze Trucking Incorporation.
Charles loved livestock, farming, hunting, camping, fishing and four wheeling.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother Minnie Greer, uncle Virgil Greer, and brother Frankie Young.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Danaze Greer, and granddaughter Lakyn Greer of the home, son Duane Greer and companion Patricia Reed-Orell, step-grandsons Jesse and Greer Orell, sisters Gladys (Jim) Dean of Flint, Michigan, Patricia (Paul) Brooks of Thorpe, Patricia Lester, Jeanie Roark and brother Calvin Roark all of Princeton, Marcella (Terry) Lemon, Freida Young, and brother Donald Young all of Columbia, Tennessee, brothers Billy Young of Anawalt, Curtis and Bobby Young of North Carolina, special nieces Patty Lambert Workman, Bobbie Mitchem, Carol Cole, special friends Jesse and Hazel Lane, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Charles Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 12:00 pm (Noon) at Long Point Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Don Farmer, Jr. and Reverend Tim Day officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV where the Mercer County Honor Guard will be performing Military graveside rites. Serving as pallbearers will be Carl Workman, Jonathan Workman, David Lambert, Newton Lambert, Jesse Orell, Greer Orell, Larry Paul, and Sam Goins, III.
The Greer family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Long Point Missionary Baptist Church.
