Edwin Carlton Lafferty

Edwin Carlton Lafferty (Carl) passed from this life on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at his home in Durham, NC.

Born March 30, 1941 in Welch, WV, he was the son of the late John Mastin Lafferty and Anvalee Vedis Lafferty.  Carl graduated from West Virginia University in 1963, with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  He was an employee of General Electric (Lynchburg, VA) from 1969-1993 and following that worked for Ericsson (RTP, NC) until his retirement in 2008.

Carl’s faith was always a priority for him.  He was a member and elder at Cole Mill Road Church of Christ, in Durham, NC.  He was a devoted husband and father who loved and cared for his family deeply. He was a loyal University of Virginia Cavaliers fan, for most of his life.

Carl leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Gloris Vaughn Lafferty, of their home in Durham.  Daughter, LaVonna “Loopie” (Leslie) Williams of Regina, Saskatchewan, Son Joseph Eric (Kimberlee) Lafferty of Boise, Idaho and daughter Melissa (John) Bucala of Graham, NC. Grandchildren, Logan, Zack, Tate, Thomas and Baylee Williams, Joshua and Michael Bucala, as well as 5 great grandchildren. Carl is also survived by three brothers, John M. Lafferty, Jr., Jesse Charles Lafferty and Philip Jonathan Lafferty. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Brook.

Funeral service will be held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV on Sunday, August 7 at 2:00 PM with burial immediately following at Woodlawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers, the family recommends that donations can be made in Carl’s honor to Duke HomeCare & Hospice.
