Carl Thomas Gibson

Carl Thomas Gibson, age 77, of Bluefield, WV died Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

He was a faithful and long time member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was responsible for the construction and installation of the steeple on the church building in honor of his father Carl V. Gibson, who while serving in World War II, was killed January 2, 1945, and buried at Epinal, France. Upon the closing of Calvary he transferred his membership to Brushfork Baptist. Tom worked as an engineering tech at Appalachian Power until his retirement.

Born November 9, 1942 in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late Carl V. Gibson and Gertrude  Damron Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delana Sutphin Gibson.

He is survived by his aunts Frances Damron, Dorothy Kilgore and Patricia Muncy; step children David (Terri) Walsh, step grand-children Michael and Andrew; Richard (Bonnie) Walsh, step grand-children James, Thomas, Rebecca, and Elizabeth; Suzanne (Kevin) Cruise, step grand-child Caroline; Terri (Vinnie) Polinsky, , step grand-children Kaitlyn, Eric and Lillian; sisters-in-law: Sylvia (Raymond) Wimmer, Linda (Ralph) Modena, Betty (Charles) Thomas; brother-in-law Jimmy (Debbie) Sutphin, and a host of cousins.

The family would like to express their appreciation to cousins Lori Dameron and Sue Stamper and to the staff of Loving Hands, Westwood Center and Compassus Hospice.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM with Rev. Wes Lambert officiating. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery in Green Valley where friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bluefield Union Mission 2203 Bluefield Avenue, Bluefield, WV.
