Billy Ray Dyson, 79, of Bluewell, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on June 1, 1940 in Hemphill, WV, he was a son of the late Thomas Ray and Laura Bowman Dyson. He was a member of the New Salem United Methodist Church on New Hope Road. He was a retired truck driver for the Noland Company and had also worked for Virginia Foods and Bluefield Supply. He loved hunting, fishing and NASCAR.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Sparks; an infant sister, Jeannie Laura; and a granddaughter, Leah Gail Thompson; and his father and mother in law, Sidney and Edith Saddler.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marsha June Saddler Dyson of the home; daughter, Sheila Dyson Thompson of Bluefield; grandson, Hunter Ray Thompson; granddaughter, Hailey Renea Thompson; sister, Annabell Taylor of Bluefield, VA; nieces, Debbie Sparks Brunk of Dublin, VA and DeWitt Taylor of Bluefield; sisters in law, Connie (Jimmy) Scott; brothers in law, Willard (Dorothy) Saddler, Buford (Cathy) Saddler, Timmy (DeAnna) Saddler all of Bluefield and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Kim Matzel, Angie Stump, Amber Burks, the many other hospice workers at Amedysis, and a friend and caregiver, Tammy Kidd.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Gerald Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family serving as pallbearers.
