Billie Ann Short

Our beautiful mother, grandmother and wife Billie Ann Hayton Short of Falls Mills, Virginia passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018, after a long battle with kidney cancer.
She was born on August 10, 1942 to the late Bill and Annie (Jennings) Hayton in Pocahontas, Virginia, where Billie would spend her childhood and attend the high school “on the hill”.
In addition to her parents Billie is preceded in death by two brothers; Barry and Ray Hayton.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Frazier Short of Falls Mills, that loved and cared for her until she drew her last breath. Two sisters, Yonda Jones and husband Michael of Falls Mills, VA, Sue Patton and husband David of Princeton, WV, one bother Lee Hayton of Bluefield, VA. Three children Marty Howard and wife Pam of Lexington, NC, Mike Howard of Tazewell, VA and Diane Howard Thompson and husband Bryan of Mt. Pleasant, NC. Eight grandchildren that lit up her world. Staying with Nana meant palettes on the floor, endless snacks and late night movie watching. Billie had a host of nieces and nephews that she loved like her own children. She will be sorely missed by all.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 02, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, West Virginia with Minister Frank Watkins officiating the service. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV with her beloved family serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, August 02, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Her family would like to express sincere gratitude to Legacy Hospice Care. Especially her nurses; Brooke, Becky, Jamie, Beth and Courtney for the care and compassion they provided to Billie Ann and Frazier. Also, we would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Rhonda Bitting and the staff at Wake Forest oncology for going above and beyond to make sure she had all she needed to complete her journey.
