Billie Jean Shires Phillips Rhyne, age 66, of Charlotte, NC and formerly of Welch and Princeton, completed her Earthly journey on Sunday night, July 16, 2023 at Atrium Health (Pineville).
Billie was born on July 26, 1956 in Pearisburg, VA to Billy B. Shires and Regina Whitt Shires. She was a 1974 graduate of Welch High School and a graduate of the nursing program at Bluefield State College, obtaining her RN degree, and later specialized certifications in oncology. Billie worked as a nurse at Stevens Clinic, Princeton Community Hospital, Dr. Khokar’s onocology practice, as well as at oncology facilities in the Charlotte area. She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Welch.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Laban Phillips; her grandparents, Ruth Whitt; Sellie and Emma Shires; and William and Virginia Whitt.
Those left to cherish her memory include: uncles and aunts, Jim and Margaret Shires of Bluewell; Buddy and Winnona of Newburgh, IN; and Ellen Shires of Rich Creek, VA; a step-daughter, Nicole (AJ) Jameson and step-granddaughters, Ava, Alexa, and Aria; and a number of cousins and relatives. Billie received special care from her ActiKare team members, Sean, Jackie, Ayshia, and Bonnie.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 4:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. James Milam and Rev. Charles (Pete) Dunford officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
