Betty Jean Shaw

Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Betty Jean Shaw, passed away peacefully in her home on March 8, 2022, at the age of 91. Betty was the youngest child born to Jim and Icie Watkins on November 29, 1930, and was a lifelong resident of Mercer County. Betty married the love of her life, George, on May 26, 1951, and together they had two daughters, Sharon Kaye and Carolyn Michele.

 Betty loved spending time with her family and celebrating the milestones and achievements of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; often creating beautiful scrapbooks to commemorate occasions. Betty also enjoyed listening to music, playing the piano, and sharing stories over a cup of coffee with family and friends, especially great-niece Donna Fields Wilson, and nephews Lloyd Eller and Sam Watkins.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Shaw of McDowell County, her daughter, Michele Browning of Princeton, and her parents and seven brothers and two sisters. Betty is survived by her daughter Sharon Lester of Princeton, grandson Eric Lester and wife Kelly and great-granddaughters Megan and Peyton Lester of Princeton, granddaughter Angela Jones and husband Chuck and great- granddaughters Kami and Kenzie Whittaker of Princeton, granddaughter Andrea Lester and her dog Frankie of California, and granddaughter Brittany Massaroni and great-granddaughter Arianna Edwards and great-grandson Kobe Edwards of Columbus Ohio, and great-grandson, Dakota Akers.

Betty will be honored at Craven-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell on March 12, 2022, with a viewing from 10:00-12:00 and a memorial service to follow officiated by Pastor Larry Dyer of Fairview Christian Community Church in Princeton.  A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Garden in Princeton on March 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will include Eric Lester, Chuck Jones, R.J. Munsey, James Hicks, Jeromy O’Donnell, and Matt Gibson.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Princeton Rescue Squad and Hospice Compasses for their care and devotion to Betty in her final days.
