Bennie Wilson Hawley, 90, of Jonah Avenue, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 at his home. Born on September 10, 1926 in Bluewell, he was a son of the late Robert and Lucy Hambrick Hawley. He had been a resident of Bluefield for his entire life, attended Bluefield schools and was a veteran of the US Army and served in World War II in the 82nd Combat Engineering Battalion. He retired from PEMCO as a shop foreman with 30 years of service. He enjoyed woodworking and piloting his own planes. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Daniel; and sisters, Margaret, Ernestine, and Christine. Survivors include his wife, Kelly Lee “Eulah / Tooti” Hawley of the home and a son, Samuel Hawley of Greenville, NC. Funeral services will be Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Eugene Pennington officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell where Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
